The Tree in Photographs
The Tree in Photographs is a Getty Publications art book edited by Francoise Reynaud, curator of photographs at the Musee Carnavalet in Paris. Assembled to accompany the Getty Museum exhibition In Focus: The Tree, it gathers eighty-one images from the museum's permanent collection that treat the tree as photographic subject.
Organized thematically across single trees, urban landscapes, human uses of trees, reflections and shadows, and abstract or conceptual studies, the volume features work by Ansel Adams, Eugene Atget, Alfred Stieglitz, Carleton Watkins, and others, offering a compact survey of how photographers have framed one of the medium's most persistent natural subjects.
