When a senator's body is found near a remote pipeline, Navajo Tribal Police Sergeant Jim Chee and Border Patrol Agent Bernadette Manuelito are drawn into a conspiracy that stretches from the Navajo Nation to the halls of power in Washington, D.C. As the investigation uncovers a web of diverted oil and gas revenue, illegal drug trafficking, and a deadly scheme involving a murdered senator, Chee and Manuelito turn to his retired mentor, Joe Leaphorn, to help untangle a case that is far larger than it first appeared.
