The Resort

Mila and her husband Ethan are driving through the mountains to her sister's wedding at a ski resort when the engine cuts out and will not restart. Night is coming and there is snow on the way, so they walk back to a sign they passed advertising cabins.

The cabins are boarded up and derelict. Neither of them wants to be there, but the snow is heavier now and the alternative is the road, so they break into one to get through the night.

Mila wakes in the morning and Ethan is not there. Sarah Goodwin spends the rest of the book on what Mila does next, in a place she cannot leave, cut off by weather, working out whether she is alone in it.
