Synopsis

In the years following the Great War, Christine toils in a provincial Austrian post office, caring for her ailing mother. A sudden invitation from her wealthy American aunt whisks her away to a luxurious Swiss Alpine resort, offering a taste of an unimaginable life. But this newfound privilege is abruptly withdrawn, plunging Christine back into her old life, consumed by bitterness. She soon encounters Ferdinand, a wounded war veteran who articulates the disillusionment of their generation, as their lives begin a downward spiral.
