The Empty Ones
Robert Brockway's punk-rock horror trilogy continues. In the earlier timeline, Carey and Randall leave New York for London, chasing the people who took Gus and running into a great deal more of the hollowed-out things wearing human faces. In the present day, Kaitlyn is still trying to work out what she has become since her first encounter with an angel, and what that lets her do about them.
Both threads turn up help from a direction neither of them would have chosen, and the shape of what the angels actually are starts to come into focus.
Book two of The Vicious Circuit, between The Unnoticeables and Kill All Angels. Same alternating timelines, same jokes-per-page, and steadily less comfort in either.
The punk from the earlier timeline, now chasing the angels across an ocean.
The former stunt double, still hunting angels in the present day and changing as she does.
Carey's friend, along for a rescue neither of them is equipped for.
