Storm Glass

"Storm Glass" opens Jeff Wheeler's Harbinger series in a world where the privileged live in sky manors held aloft by a secretive magic known as the Mysteries, while the earthbound poor are locked into factory labor to keep the engine of commerce running. Only the wealthy can afford to learn the Mysteries, and they use that knowledge to further entrench their hold on society.

Cettie Pratt is a waif doomed to a life below until an admiral attempts to adopt her — but her new home in the clouds doesn't welcome her as family. Sera Fitzempress is a princess born into power who has heard so much about the orphan girl that she longs to meet her, though her father considers Cettie unworthy of his daughter's curiosity. As the two girls' paths converge, both will prove necessary to face the storm gathering over their divided world.
