Synopsis

When Eragon, a poor farm boy, finds a smooth blue stone in the mountains near his home, he thinks he has stumbled on a way to buy his family meat for the winter. Instead, the stone hatches — and out comes a dragon. Overnight, Eragon is bound to Saphira and drawn into a heritage he never knew he had, joining the near-extinct line of the Dragon Riders who once kept peace across the land of Alagaësia.

But the Riders were destroyed by Galbatorix, the tyrant who now rules as king, and Eragon's discovery does not stay secret for long. When tragedy strikes his home, the boy and his dragon flee into a wider, more dangerous world, guided by the mysterious old storyteller Brom. Learning to fight, to ride, and to wield magic as he goes, Eragon must decide what kind of hero he is willing to become.

The first book in Christopher Paolini's bestselling Inheritance Cycle, Eragon is a sweeping, classic-flavored epic fantasy of dragons, destiny, and a farm boy's coming of age.
