Synopsis
Julie Leuze's "Sternschnuppenträume" follows Svea and Nick, both seventeen and living on the same North Sea island, whose lives have never really overlapped until one night when each of them leaves a beach party separately, seeking solitude to think through their difficult family situations. They meet by chance on the beach, and what begins as a shared need for escape grows into something neither expected.
Svea is quietly giving up her dream of becoming a marine biologist while trying to hide why her mother suddenly left. Nick seems carefree and easygoing on the surface — until, on a clear, starry night, Svea catches a glimpse of who he really is underneath. Told from both of their perspectives, the novel is a coming-of-age story about family secrets, first love, and learning who to let in.
