Synopsis

Olivia Westerly spent almost forty years avoiding children and the entanglements she believed came with them. Then she met Charlie Doyle and married him anyway - and was widowed on their honeymoon.

Returning home to Wyattsville, she finds eleven-year-old Ethan Allen Doyle, Charlie's grandson, sitting on her doorstep. His parents are dead, and Ethan is the only witness to what happened to them. The man responsible knows it, and he is looking for the boy.

Bette Lee Crosby's Wyattsville novel is a family saga with a murder at its centre: a wary widow and a hardened child circling each other, and a threat closing in while they work out whether they can be a family.
