Synopsis

In 1996 Egypt, adventurer Dirk Pitt finds himself entangled in a deadly plot while searching for treasure on the Nile. He must protect a U.N. scientist investigating a mysterious disease causing madness and death across North Africa, all while confronting a billionaire industrialist and a ruthless tyrant. Pitt races against time to prevent an environmental catastrophe that threatens the world's oceans, uncovering long-lost secrets of a Civil War ironclad and a missing female pilot along the way. His desperate stand in the Sahara desert will determine the fate of humanity.

Cussler began writing novels in 1965 and published his first work featuring his continuous series hero, Dirk Pitt, in 1973. His first non-fiction, The Sea Hunters, was released in 1996. The Board of Governors of the Maritime College, State University of New York, considered The Sea Hunters in lieu of a Ph.D. thesis and awarded Cussler a Doctor of Letters degree in May, 1997.
