Synopsis
Rhenn has been abducted from Usara to the continent of Daemanon by the mysterious Nhevalos, who shows her what is coming. The Giants have returned, and they want their world back. Nhevalos says he is orchestrating the fight against them, arranging people and forces across a life-and-death game board, and that he and Rhenn are on the same side.
Rhenn does not buy it, for a reason that is hard to argue with: what kind of man traps a woman in a cage with no doors and then calls himself her friend?
Trying to get out from under him, she throws in with a scuttling necromancer who promises to take her home to Usara. The necromancer turns out to have his own use for a queen, and she trades one trap for a worse one. The book is Rhenn's fight to outwit the necromancer, get clear of Nhevalos, and reach home before Daemanon closes on her for good.
