Synopsis
Lorelle is dying. She gave up half her soul to save Khyven the Unkillable, and the loss is consuming her from the inside out. She has a matter of days, and she intends to spend them finding Rhenn, Usara's abducted queen.
What she needs is a mystic key, and searching for it produces nothing at all — until a dark elf arrives in Usara claiming to have exactly what she is looking for. His terms are that she follow him into the Great Noktum and bind herself to the Dark.
She goes. She does not tell Khyven or any of the others; she simply leaves. What she walks into is a place made of danger and betrayal, where the two questions that matter stay open a long time: whether the dark elf will actually lead her to the key, or whether Lorelle has made herself a piece in somebody else's war for Noksonon.
