Charlotte Brontë
Charlotte Brontë (21 April 1816 – 31 March 1855) was an English novelist and poet, the eldest of the three Brontë sisters who survived to adulthood. Born in Thornton, Yorkshire, and raised in Haworth, where her father was the parish curate, she published under the pseudonym Currer Bell. Her best-known novel, Jane Eyre (1847), was an immediate success; she followed it with Shirley (1849) and Villette (1853). The Professor, her first written novel, appeared posthumously in 1857.
