Synopsis

Born with no scent of his own but blessed — or cursed — with the most acute sense of smell the world has ever known, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille grows up unloved and unnoticed in the reeking slums of eighteenth-century Paris. Apprenticed to a perfumer, he discovers his single obsession: to capture and preserve the most exquisite scent imaginable, the scent of a beautiful young woman.

His pursuit of the perfect perfume leads him from the tanneries of Paris to the flower fields of Grasse — and to murder.

Patrick Süskind's international bestseller is a dark, sensuous, and disturbing historical novel — part fable, part horror story — about genius, obsession, and a man entirely without conscience.
