Synopsis

Gamel Woolsey's novel, originally suppressed for its sexual explicitness, follows Mariana Clare as she navigates love and desire in 1930s New York. Raised on fairy tales, Mariana dreams of perfect, eternal love, only to find her bohemian friends' openness about sex and her own marriage to Alan challenge her ideals. As she grapples with disillusionment, Mariana fears a profound loneliness if she cannot find a true lover.
