Synopsis

A simplified retelling of Stephen King's Misery, adapted by Robin Waterfield for Penguin Readers Level 6 (advanced, around 3,000 headwords). It runs to roughly ninety pages and is written for people learning English rather than as an edition of the novel.

The story is King's: Paul Sheldon writes bestselling romances about a heroine called Misery Chastain. After a car crash on a snowbound road he is rescued by Annie Wilkes, a former nurse who calls herself his number one fan, and who is not at all pleased that he has killed Misery off in his latest book.

Readers looking for the full 1987 novel want the separate Misery entry in the catalogue; this record is the graded reader, published by Longman and later Pearson.
