Synopsis

The third and final book in the Maybe Someday series, Maybe Now picks up with Sydney and Ridge navigating their relationship now that the complications separating them in the first novel have been resolved. Alongside their story, the novel expands Maggie's perspective, giving her more interiority and agency than she had in Maybe Someday. Where the first book was driven by the tension of an impossible situation, Maybe Now explores what love looks like when the obstacle is gone — and what actually sustains two people once urgency is replaced by ordinary life.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to read other books before this one?

This novel serves as the third installment in the Maybe series and is intended to be read after both Maybe Someday and the novella Maybe Not to fully understand the character arcs and relationships.

  • Does this book feature multiple perspectives?

The narrative is structured through the alternating viewpoints of several key characters, including Sydney, Ridge, Maggie, and Jake, which provides a broader look at their collective experiences.

  • Do I need to read Maybe Someday and Maybe Not before Maybe Now?

Reading Maybe Someday first is essential — Maybe Now is a direct continuation and assumes full knowledge of the first book's events and characters. Maybe Not (the Warren and Bridgette novella) is recommended but not required to follow Maybe Now's main story.

  • Is there a musical component to this story?

The story continues the collaboration between the author and musician Griffin Peterson, incorporating the musical world established in the first book of the series.

  • Does Maybe Now continue only Sydney and Ridge's story, or does it introduce new characters?

It primarily continues Sydney and Ridge's relationship, but gives Maggie — Ridge's girlfriend in Maybe Someday — considerably more interiority and storyline than she had in the first book. Her arc in Maybe Now recontextualizes some of what readers experienced in Maybe Someday.

  • Is Maybe Now the final book in the Maybe Someday series?

Yes — it is the third and final entry. The series is complete: Maybe Someday (main novel), Maybe Not (companion novella), Maybe Now (sequel and conclusion).

  • What is the central conflict of Maybe Now given that the main obstacle from Maybe Someday is resolved?

The novel shifts from the tension of an impossible situation to the more ordinary challenges of building a real relationship — communication, trust, integrating lives. It also introduces new complications through Maggie's expanded storyline, which adds emotional complexity the first book only hinted at.

  • Does Ridge's deafness continue to play a role in Maybe Now?

Yes — it remains a characteristic of his experience and of the relationship, though the novel does not revisit the songwriting premise of Maybe Someday as its primary device. The same Griffin Peterson soundtrack exists for the first novel; Maybe Now has no companion album.

  • Is Maybe Now available as a standalone read?

No — it requires Maybe Someday for context. Characters, history, and emotional stakes from the first book are load-bearing throughout.
