Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to read the previous books in the Prey series to understand this one?

While each novel features a self-contained investigation that can be followed on its own, the series tracks the long-term evolution of Lucas Davenport from a local police detective to a U.S. Marshal. Reading in order provides necessary context for his personal life, his marriage, and his relationships with recurring characters who appear throughout the series.

  • How does Lucas Davenport's role in this book differ from his earlier appearances?

This installment highlights his transition into a semi-autonomous U.S. Marshal, a position that grants him the jurisdictional freedom to operate outside of Minnesota. This change in status is a significant departure from his earlier career as a Minneapolis police detective and his subsequent work with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
