In 80 Buchhandlungen um die Welt
In 2015, Torsten Woywod founded a project he called "Around the World in 100 Bookshops" and set off to visit the most beautiful bookstores on earth. A year later he quit his job and apartment to do it all again on a second world tour.
In 80 Buchhandlungen um die Welt collects the loving anecdotes and charming stories from those travels — bookshop-cafés, beach bookstores, a former theater in Buenos Aires converted into a bookshop with shelves reaching to the ceiling, and a Tokyo capsule hotel where guests sleep in bookshelves.
The book takes readers to Books Actually in Singapore, home to internet-famous bookstore cats Pico, Lemon, and Cake; Bart's Books in Ojai, California, the world's largest outdoor bookstore with 150,000 volumes under the open sky; and Powell's City of Books in Portland, the largest independent bookstore in the world.
Part travelogue, part love letter to physical bookshops, it's an alternative culture guide to the world's most curious and beautiful places to buy a book.
