The twelfth entry in Serena Valentino's Villains series turns to Wonderland, tracing the path that turns an ordinary young woman with an ungovernable temper into the tyrannical Queen of Hearts.
Her one steady presence through the transformation is the White Rabbit, whose devotion becomes the only anchor she has left as her rages grow more dangerous and her grip on Wonderland tightens. Meanwhile the Odd Sisters, the meddling trio who have shaped the fates of villains throughout the series, are already circling with plans of their own.
As with the rest of the Villains series, the novel reframes a familiar Disney antagonist's cruelty as the end point of a specific, traceable descent, told with the same gothic, fairy-tale voice that runs through Valentino's other Disney reimaginings.
