Synopsis

Ada and her father, gifted with the power to heal illness, live on the edge of a village where they treat sick locals, known as "Cures," by cracking open their damaged bodies or burying them for a time in the reviving, dangerous Ground nearby. Ada, who was born from the Ground and is both more and less than human, has little interest in the Cures until she meets a local man, Samson, and begins an affair with him, to the displeasure of both her father and Samson's widowed, pregnant sister.

As Ada is pulled between her old life and her new one, she uncovers a dark secret in Samson's family and makes a choice that will change him, his sister, the village, and the Ground itself.
