Fallen Rook

Tom is an FBI agent who thinks he knows something that could topple a powerful American crime family. His chance comes when Enzo Ferrante, a Camorra enforcer, makes a mistake, and the two men end up tied to each other in ways neither planned.

Tom intends to use that tie to put Enzo and his family in prison. Enzo is engaged to a woman the family approves of, and he lets his own secrets out only during the hours he spends with Tom. Each man has reason to keep the other close, and each has something to hide.

This is a forbidden male/male romance with an age gap between the leads, set in the mafia world of the Society of Villains series by L.J. Shen. The setup pits law enforcement against organised crime, so the attraction carries the risk of exposure on both sides.

Fallen Rook is the third book in the series, after Bad Bishop and Twisted Pawn. It is written to be read on its own, though readers who know the earlier books may find that it leans on them in places.
