Synopsis

Seventh in Simon Scarrow's Eagles of the Empire series, El águila en el desierto (published in English as The Eagle in the Sand) follows centurions Macro and Cato to Judea, on the eastern edge of the Roman Empire under Claudius. The fort they are sent to reform is corrupt and demoralized, and the province itself is close to open revolt: Bannus, a local zealot, is rallying followers of a crucified Jewish preacher into an uprising against Roman rule, while Parthia watches the frontier for a chance to invade.

Macro and Cato have to clean out corruption in their own cohort while putting down a revolt that has religious as well as political roots, in one of the more historically grounded entries in the series. The novel was translated into Spanish by Montse Batista in 2007.
