Synopsis

Erica Ferencik's Girl in Ice (published in German as Ein Lied vom Ende der Welt, translated by Ulrike Wasel and Klaus Timmermann) sends linguist Valerie Chesterfield to an isolated Arctic research station after her twin brother is found dead there under unexplained circumstances. At the station she encounters a young girl discovered frozen but alive, seemingly able to communicate with wolves and speaking a language no one recognizes.

As Val works to decode the girl's speech, she is drawn deeper into the mystery of her brother's death and the isolated, ice-bound world of the research team around her. The novel combines a grief-driven personal story with a slow-building mystery set against a harsh polar backdrop.
