Albert lives with his introverted mathematician father in Hamburg's Blankenese district after his parents' separation, and spends his free time at the main train station photographing farewells, which he believes are the moments people are least able to fake. When he meets Kati, a girl who seems to practically live at the station, and shows her his favorite photograph, she insists it's a lie.
Determined to prove him wrong, Kati and Albert go looking for the two people in the picture — a man, and Kati's sister, who died by suicide, throwing herself in front of a train. The search draws Albert into a world of homeless, drug-dependent and prostituting teenagers living around the station, echoing the terrain of Christiane F.'s account decades earlier. Christoph Scheuring's novel won a jury nomination for the German Youth Literature Prize in 2015.
