Synopsis

Twelve years after the events of Dune, Paul Atreides rules the known universe as Emperor Muad'Dib. The desert prophecy has been fulfilled, and a fanatical religious empire now acts in his name across the galaxy. But absolute power has trapped him: he can see the terrible cost of the future he set in motion, and he is haunted by the jihad carried out under his banner.

As enemies conspire against him — a Bene Gesserit sister, a Spacing Guild navigator, a Tleilaxu Face Dancer, and a resurrected figure from his past — Paul must navigate a web of political and religious intrigue while grappling with the burden of prescience and the limits of his own control over destiny.

Shorter and more inward than its predecessor, Dune Messiah is Frank Herbert's meditation on the danger of heroes and the corrupting weight of messianic myth. It deepens the philosophical questions of the first novel and darkens the saga's vision of leadership and fate.
