Synopsis

Chief Inspector Wilfred Dover, a slovenly and often incompetent detective, is called to investigate a murder at a seaside resort. Despite his unorthodox methods and general disinterest, Dover stumbles through the case, leaving a trail of exasperated colleagues and bewildered suspects in his wake. The investigation unfolds with a blend of dark humor and unexpected twists.

Joyce Porter was born in Marple, Cheshire, and educated at King's College, London. In 1949 she joined the Women's Royal Air Force, and, on the strength of an intensive course in Russian, qualified for confidential work in intelligence.
