Synopsis

Four city men venture into the remote Georgia wilderness for a whitewater canoeing trip, only to be hunted by a clan of local mountain men who have been trapping outsiders for years. What begins as a reckless adventure turns into a desperate fight for survival against a ruthless, cannibalistic enemy hiding in the woods.

James Lafayette Dickey was an American poet and novelist. He was appointed the eighteenth United States Poet Laureate in 1966. He also received the Order of the South award. Dickey is best known for his novel Deliverance (1970), which was adapted into the acclaimed 1972 film of the same name.
