Synopsis

"Das Berghotel 231" is part of Verena Kufsteiner's long-running Heimatroman series "Das Berghotel — Liebe und Schicksal in St. Christoph," published by Bastei Lübbe and set around a fictional hotel in the Tyrolean village of St. Christoph in the Zillertal.

This installment opens with the cable car to the Feldkopfgletscher standing motionless just as winter vacation season begins. Johann, the junior manager of the Ortel-Gebirgsbahnen cable car company, travels to the mountain with his chief engineer Julia to investigate the fault, and the two check into the Berghotel while they work. When Julia suddenly disappears from the hotel, Johann discovers the cable car stalled in its outer coupling just above the ground — and must piece together what happened to her.

Like the rest of the series, it combines light suspense with romance against an alpine backdrop, in a quick, comforting read rather than a complex thriller.
