Frequently asked questions

  • Is Ciaphas Cain part of a larger series?

This book is the first in a long-running series that follows the titular commissar's misadventures across the Warhammer 40,000 universe. While each novel generally presents a self-contained story, there are overarching character developments and recurring allies and adversaries.

  • Does this book connect to other Warhammer 40,000 stories?

The Ciaphas Cain series is set within the vast Warhammer 40,000 fictional universe, sharing its lore, factions, and general setting with numerous other novels, games, and media. Readers familiar with the broader Warhammer 40,000 background will recognize many elements, but new readers can enjoy the stories without prior knowledge.

  • What is the narrative style of Ciaphas Cain?

The stories are presented as memoirs written by Ciaphas Cain himself, often with footnotes and commentary from an Inquisitor Amberley Vail, who provides additional context and sometimes a contrasting perspective. This dual narrative approach offers both an intimate, often self-deprecating, view from Cain and a broader, more objective analysis from Vail.
