Synopsis

On August 9th, 1945, in Nagasaki, Hiroko Tanaka's world explodes, leaving her with indelible burns and the loss of everything she knew. Two years later, seeking a new beginning, she travels to Delhi and becomes entwined with the lives of Konrad's half-sister Elizabeth, her husband James Burton, and their employee Sajjad Ashraf. As decades pass, new homes replace old and conflicts shift, but the shadows of history, both personal and political, follow the Burtons, Ashrafs, and Tanakas from Pakistan to New York, culminating in Afghanistan after 9/11, testing their bonds to the extreme.
