Synopsis

The dragons and their keepers have at last reached the lost Elderling city of Kelsingra, but survival is far from assured. The dragons need the city's fabled silver wells to stay healthy, and the humans cannot find them among Kelsingra's vast, empty buildings. To uncover the secrets they need, the keepers risk memory walking: immersing themselves in the dangerously addictive recollections stored in the city's memory stones, reliving the lives of long-dead Elderlings. The price is steep. Rapskal, plunging deepest into the past, grows less like himself and more like Tellator, the belligerent Elderling warrior whose memories he plunders. As the keepers continue their transformation into beautiful Elderlings shaped by their dragons, threats close in from beyond the city, and the dying Duke of Chalced's agents still hunt dragon flesh, while in Bingtown Malta and Reyn's ailing infant can be saved only by a dragon's intervention. This final volume of the Rain Wild Chronicles, the second half of a sequel split by the publisher, draws together the threads of the journey, restoring Kelsingra and resolving the fates of dragons, keepers, and the Elderlings tied to the older Realm of the Elderlings stories as the dragons reclaim their place in the world.
