Angry Sea, Hidden Sands
Angry Sea, Hidden Sands is the second volume of Xu Lei's Grave Robbers' Chronicles, the tomb-raiding adventure series that later inspired the Lost Tomb television and film franchise. The story continues directly from the first book: Wu has opened a strange box recovered from a tomb full of dead warriors, and his uncle, Third Uncle, produces an identical artifact of his own.
When Third Uncle's boat disappears into the South China Sea, Wu, Fatty, and Ghost Face Zhang set out after him and find themselves trapped in a labyrinth of shifting underwater rooms, stalked by two monsters as relentless as they are lethal. Told in Xu Lei's pulpy, propulsive style, it favors atmosphere and set-piece peril over deep characterization, in keeping with the series' roots in Chinese tomb-raiding adventure fiction.
The narrator, drawn into an undersea labyrinth searching for his missing Third Uncle.
Wu's uncle, an experienced grave robber whose disappearance at sea sets the plot in motion.
