Synopsis

Bored on a riverbank one summer afternoon, Alice follows a white rabbit in a waistcoat down a rabbit hole and falls into Wonderland, a topsy-turvy world where cakes and potions change her size, a Caterpillar smokes a hookah and speaks in riddles, and a short-tempered Queen of Hearts demands beheadings over the smallest offenses. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland follows her attempts to make sense of a place where logic, manners, and language itself work backward.

In the companion novel, Through the Looking-Glass, Alice climbs through a mirror into a second, reversed world laid out like a giant chessboard. To become a queen herself, she must cross the board square by square, encountering Tweedledum and Tweedledee, a chess-piece White Knight, and Humpty Dumpty perched on his wall, in a story built around the rules and moves of chess rather than cards.

Together, these two Lewis Carroll classics — collected here in one edition — turn childhood nonsense into a dazzling display of wordplay, logic games, and imagination, and remain among the most quoted and adapted works in the English language.
