Synopsis

Major Rufus d'Aumesty never expected to become the Earl of Oxney, let alone master of a crumbling manor on the smugglers' edge of Romney Marsh. With his uncle contesting the title and the estate in disarray, he needs someone clever at his side, and finds it in Luke Doomsday, son of the very smuggling family causing him trouble. Luke is exactly the kind of secretary Rufus needs: sharp, capable, and a natural schemer. He is also hiding a motive of his own for getting close to the new earl, one that puts everything at risk once genuine feelings start to grow between them. Set thirteen years after the events of the first Doomsday Books novel, this is a witty, slow-building m/m historical romance about two men who start out using each other and end up needing each other.
