Synopsis

In an alternate 1912 Cairo, magic returned decades ago when a mystic tore open a door to the realm of djinn, and the city now hums with clockwork trams, automatons, and supernatural bureaucracy. Special Investigator Fatma el-Sha'arawi of the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments, and Supernatural Entities is called to the scene of what looks like a djinn's suicide. A feather left at the site points toward something far stranger than self-destruction, and Fatma's inquiry pulls her through Cairo's underworld of ghouls, angels, and old grudges as she works to keep a fragile peace between the human and supernatural worlds from unraveling.
