Synopsis

A companion collection to Rick Riordan's Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard trilogy, gathering nine humorous, self-contained short stories, each set in a different one of the Nine Worlds of Norse mythology and each narrated by a different character from the series. Set after the main trilogy, the book hands the microphone to the supporting cast while Magnus himself is offstage, visiting his cousin Annabeth, so he narrates none of the tales. A loose running thread ties the stories together: Thor is jogging across all Nine Worlds trying to rack up ten million steps so he can appear on a Midgard television show, and he keeps turning up in each story to help or to hinder. Otherwise the characters face their own monsters, giants, and meddlesome gods in compact side quests that range from clothes shopping gone wrong to a confrontation in the land of the dead. Narrators include Odin, Amir Fadlan, Blitzen, Hearthstone, Samirah al-Abbas, Thomas Jefferson Jr., Mallory Keen, Halfborn Gunderson, and Alex Fierro, giving readers nine distinct comic voices and a tour of the whole Norse cosmos. Illustrated by James Firnhaber, Jim Madsen, and Yori Elita Narpati, it is a light, episodic companion best read after the trilogy. It revisits the friendships, identities, and culture of Riordan's einherjar crew rather than advancing a single overarching plot.
