This volume introduces two of Demon Slayer's most memorable characters: Zenitsu Agatsuma, a cowardly swordsman convinced he's about to die on every mission, and Inosuke Hashibira, a feral fighter who charges into battle wearing a boar's head. Tanjiro crosses paths with Zenitsu as he's leaving Asakusa, and the pair investigate a remote mansion where children have been going missing, only for Inosuke to burst into the fray uninvited.
Koyoharu Gotouge rounds out the series' core trio here, balancing Zenitsu's comic cowardice and Inosuke's chaotic aggression against Tanjiro's steady resolve.
