Tamora Pierce
The Song of the Lioness
The Song of the Lioness series follows Alanna, a young girl who disguises herself as a boy to train as a knight in a world where women are forbidden from combat. This fantasy saga explores themes of identity, gender roles, and courage as Alanna strives to prove her worth and become a legendary warrior.
The Song of the Lioness series should be read in publication order, starting with Alanna: The First Adventure, followed by In the Hand of the Goddess, The Woman Who Rides Like a Man, and concluding with Lioness Rampant.
The Song of the Lioness series is the first quartet in Tamora Pierce's Tortall universe, and many characters and events from this series reappear or are referenced in her subsequent Tortall quartets, such as The Immortals and Protector of the Small.
As of my last update, there is a television series adaptation of the Song of the Lioness books in development.
