Gilead
Marilynne Robinson's Gilead novels — Gilead (2004), Home (2008), Lila (2014), and Jack (2020) — form an interconnected quartet centered on two families in the fictional town of Gilead, Iowa: the Ameses and the Boughtons. Rather than one continuous plot, each novel revisits overlapping mid-20th-century small-town life from a different vantage point, moving between the Reverend John Ames, his oldest friend Robert Boughton, Ames's wife Lila, and Boughton's prodigal son Jack. Gilead won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction; all four novels have been published together as The Gilead Novels.
