Frequently asked questions
Did Juan Goytisolo win the Cervantes Prize?
Yes. He was awarded the Premio Cervantes on 24 November 2014. It is the highest honour in Spanish-language literature and is given for a writer's body of work rather than for a single book, so it belongs to Goytisolo's career as a whole and not to any one of his novels. He had earlier received the Octavio Paz Prize (2002) and the Juan Rulfo Prize (2004), and in 2007 the Instituto Cervantes library in Tangier was renamed in his honour.
