Synopsis

Nash Morgan, Knockemout's easygoing police chief, hasn't been quite himself since he was shot in the line of duty — plagued by panic attacks and a simmering temper he doesn't recognize. The last thing he needs is his new neighbor: Lina, a sleek, guarded woman who rolls into town on a motorcycle with a hidden agenda and no intention of staying.

Neither of them is looking for a relationship. Both keep ending up in each other's orbit anyway, trading barbs that don't quite hide the heat underneath. But Lina's real reason for being in Knockemout is tangled up with the same danger that put a bullet in Nash, and the closer they get, the harder it becomes to walk away — or to stay safe.

Lucy Score's second Knockemout romance pairs slow-burn banter and small-town warmth with a thickening thread of suspense.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to read the first book in the Knockemout series before this one?

While each novel in the series focuses on a different couple, the books are interconnected through a shared town, recurring side characters, and an ongoing criminal storyline that begins in the first installment. Reading them in order provides the most complete context for the Morgan family dynamics and the broader events unfolding in Knockemout.

  • Is this book a standalone story?

The narrative functions as a linked story within a series rather than a true standalone. Because the central characters and the town's overarching conflicts carry over from the previous book, new readers may find certain plot points and character relationships more difficult to follow without the background established in the first volume.
