She is best known for the Winternight trilogy, fantasy novels set in medieval Russia that began with The Bear and the Nightingale and drew Hugo and Locus nominations, and for the Small Spaces series of middle-grade horror novels, whose first book won the Vermont Golden Dome Book Award in 2020.
