Synopsis

The Wettest County in the World is Matt Bondurant's 2014 historical novel about three brothers — Jack, Forrest, and Howard — who run a moonshine operation in rural Virginia during the Depression and Prohibition. Based on the author's own family history, the book follows the trio as they navigate bootlegging, wartime trauma, and the escalating violence of their local rivals after their father is murdered by a criminal gang. The story was adapted into the film Lawless (2012).
