Synopsis

At Caseham High, Eve Bennett teaches math and her husband, Nate, teaches English; to everyone around them, they’re the couple who have it all. But the school is still raw from a scandal the year before — a student-teacher affair involving a girl named Addie — and Eve is certain there’s more to the story than the rumors allow, convinced that Addie is a liar who damages everyone she touches. At the same time, Eve’s grip on her own marriage is slipping: Nate’s late nights, his easy charm, and the young women who orbit him feed a paranoia she can’t quiet. As the perspectives of the people involved bleed into one another, the line between victim and predator blurs, and the comfortable surface of two teachers’ lives gives way to something far uglier. It builds toward one of McFadden’s most polarizing, twist-stacked endings.
