Four short stories return to the world of the Captive Prince trilogy, moving across its timeline and past the trilogy's final page. In the title story, Damen and Laurent now rule a kingdom finally at peace. They spend a summer together at a palace on the coast, working through the grievances a war and a captivity left between them.
Green but for a Season follows two soldiers of the Prince's Guard, Jord and Aimeric, as an attraction complicates the discipline of their posting. The Adventures of Charls, the Veretian Cloth Merchant sends the merchant Charls into a caper needing nerve and a disguise in the newly unified kingdom. Pet follows the courtier Ancel as he climbs the ranks of the Veretian court's pet system, on charm and calculation.
The collection is a fantasy romance built on court politics and physical adventure. Each story keeps the trilogy's own mix: sharp dialogue, a slow-building intimacy, and stakes that come from rank and reputation as much as from swords. A reader who finished Kings Rising gets the fullest reward here. Every story still stands on its own point of view.
The four stories first appeared individually between 2016 and 2017. They were gathered as the fourth Captive Prince book in 2018, following the trilogy of Captive Prince, Prince's Gambit and Kings Rising.
