Synopsis

Molly works as a junior journalist on a local paper in Crawley and is putting away every penny toward a camper van. To make that arithmetic work she has taken up phrogging: living inside other people's houses without them knowing, in the loft or the spare room, out at dawn and back after dark.

Her third house is Church House, No. 6, recently bought by the Reillys, who look from the inside of their own loft conversion like a family with nothing wrong. Three occupants and plenty of room to stay out of the way.

That holds until Jack Reilly comes home in the middle of an afternoon with a woman who is not his wife, and Molly ends up a witness to something she is not supposed to have seen. When a woman in the area goes missing not long after, Molly is fairly sure Jack was involved and completely unable to say so: explaining what she knows means explaining where she was standing. Gemma Rogers keeps her in the house, watching, with an alibi she does not believe and no way to challenge it.
