The shattering
In the fifth book of Kathryn Lasky's Guardians of Ga'Hoole series, the war between the owls of the Great Ga'Hoole Tree and Kludd's Pure Ones has reached a desperate pitch. Soren's younger sister, Eglantine, begins suffering strange, trance-like dreams — and when she vanishes, Soren realizes she has fallen victim to a brainwashing plot that has turned her into an unwitting spy for the enemy.
Determined to save her, Soren leads his fellow Band members — Twilight, Gylfie, and Digger — deep into the treacherous territory known as the Beaks to find Eglantine and undo what has been done to her. Their search collides with Kludd's advancing army in a climactic battle made even more dangerous by a raging forest fire, testing the Band's courage and loyalty as the war for Ga'Hoole reaches its next turning point.
