Synopsis

The Risk is the first installment of S.T. Abby's Mindf*ck series, the opening move in a dark, dual-POV romantic thriller designed to be read straight through — each short book ends on a cliffhanger that leads directly into the next.

Beneath an ordinary surface, a young woman hides a lethal secret: years ago the men who assaulted her and destroyed her family escaped justice, and she has spent her life preparing to take it back. As she begins working through her list, she crosses paths with Logan Bennett, a brilliant FBI profiler hunting the very killer she is becoming. What starts as a calculated risk becomes something neither of them can control.

Fast, addictive, and morally provocative, The Risk sets up the obsession, revenge, and forbidden attraction that drive the whole series. Best started here and binged to the finish.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can The Risk be read as a standalone?

No. The Risk is the first of five short installments in S.T. Abby's Mindf*ck series, and it ends on a cliffhanger that leads straight into the next book. The series is written as one continuous story split across five volumes rather than as separate, self-contained novels, so it is meant to be read in order and start to finish. The five books are also available collected in a single omnibus edition.

  • What content warnings does The Risk carry?

The Risk is a dark romance and carries heavy content. Readers and reviewers consistently flag graphic violence, on-page murder and torture, and sexual assault — the heroine is a survivor of a brutal assault ten years earlier, and that trauma is depicted rather than only referred to. It also contains explicit sexual content. Readers sensitive to any of these should approach the book, and the series as a whole, with that in mind.
