Synopsis

Collegiate Assessor Kovalyov wakes up one morning to find his nose missing from his face — and shortly after spots it, dressed in the uniform of a high-ranking official, going about St. Petersburg on its own business, apparently outranking him. Gogol's absurdist satire skewers the vanity, status-obsession and bureaucratic pretension of Russian society through one of literature's strangest premises.
